Accuracy and verification

Material claims should be checked against reliable sources. Where facts cannot be independently confirmed, the source and limits of the information should be made clear.

Sourcing and attribution

Reporting should identify sources whenever possible, link to relevant primary material, and distinguish verified facts from analysis, opinion, estimates, or allegations.

Fairness and context

Coverage should provide the context readers need and should seek a meaningful response from a person or organization facing significant criticism when practicable.

Conflicts and disclosures

Relevant relationships or conflicts that could affect how readers assess a story should be disclosed. Editorial conclusions must not be purchased by an advertiser or sponsor.

Sponsored and supplied material

Paid, sponsored, partner, and supplied material must be clearly identified. Press releases and claims from organizations should not be presented as independently verified reporting without appropriate review and attribution.
